We’re putting together a quarterly list of the street lights in the Carlyle/Eisenhower East area that are out. If there is one you know of in particular you want us to mention, please leave it in the comments below. We’ll have the list compiled and sent into the City of Alexandria by the end of the month.
Jefferson-Houston elementary is undergoing some changes this year and therefore so is the kiss & ride parking at the school. This school year look for Kiss & Ride parking in front of Jefferson-Houston (North side of Cameron St from West St to the Durant Center) from 7:30-8:30 am and in the afternoon, Kiss & Ride hours will be from 2:30-4:15pm. During the new Kiss & Ride hours, Jefferson-Houston staff will be directing traffic to minimize back-ups on Cameron St.
The reason for this advisory is that, for safety reasons and site constraints, only buses will be allowed on to the Jefferson-Houston site during drop-off and pick-up. Personal cars will not be allowed to drop off or pick up students behind the school. This restriction will increase the number of parent drop-offs and pick-ups on Cameron St.
DASH will operate a SUNDAY schedule in observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 2, 2013. The King Street Trolley will operate every 15 minutes between the King Street Metro Station and the Potomac River waterfront from 11:30 a.m. to 10:15 p.m.
Due to some residents concerns, we have been pushing the City of Alexandria to repaint the sidewalks in Carlyle for quite sometime. As you can see above, looks like the City has gotten around to it.
The folks at 2000 Duke Street have had some guys out cleaning up the brick sidewalk along their parking garage on the Jamieson Ave side of the building this week. Hopefully, when they’re done, there won’t be as much standing water on the sidewalk during a rainstorm.
The wayfinding signage you see above is part of the City of Alexandria’s wayfinding program. I showed you what the park signage looks like at this link and what some of the other signs look like at this link.
The wayfinding system is intended to project a consistent image for the entire city; reduce visual clutter; and promote walking, bicycling, and use of mass transit. I’ll be snapping more types of the new signage as I come across them.
